“Äriseosed beta”: e-äriregister in Estonia Tests New Business Relationship Visualization Tool
On September 21, 2026, Registrite ja Infosüsteemide Keskus (RIK) announced that all e-äriregister users can now try the beta version of a new business relationship visualization tool. This tool displays how companies and individuals are connected, including by shared address, other countries, and previous ownership. It’s a convenient tool for those checking business partners, and for Estonian company owners, a chance to see how their structure appears to outsiders.
What Happened
RIK, Estonia’s state Centre of Registers and Information Systems that manages the commercial register (äriregister), announced a new test version of its business relationships visualization tool on September 21, 2026. All e-äriregister (online commercial register) users can try it out.
The tool is accessed via a company’s profile: under the company name, there is now an “Äriseosed beta” (“Business Relations, beta”) section. According to RIK, it shows legal entities and individuals linked to the business and offers more analytical opportunities than before:
- All legal entities registered at the same address;
- Countries related to the entity are directly visible in the interface;
- Active and ceased relationships, including previous ownership connections;
- Timeline, allowing users to compare historical data and spot changes over the years.
RIK also notes that the new version is more user-friendly on mobile devices and complies with accessibility requirements. According to RIK’s Commercial Registry Team Lead, Tambet Artma, the application was initially designed for detecting money laundering schemes, and is now offered in a more convenient form for the public.
There are, however, some limitations to the beta:
- It currently does not display information on ultimate beneficial owners (tegelikud kasusaajad, UBOs). RIK says that in the future, these will be viewable when there is a legitimate interest (õigustatud huvi);
- Information on mergers and divisions of companies will be added in the next update phase.
RIK clearly labels this version as a test. Its goal is to gather user feedback before a full release, so both the old and new versions will be available for some time.
According to RIK’s statistics, from September 9 to 15, there were 2,122 initial and 1,168 repeat visits. Average user satisfaction was 3.85 out of 5 based on 96 responses. Early NPS data (24 responses) shows that 62.5% would recommend the tool, 25% are neutral, and 12.5% are critical. The sample size is small and the data comes from RIK itself. Based on these numbers, the tool had users even before the public announcement.
What It Means for Entrepreneurs
Registration and reporting rules remain unchanged. The change concerns the service: open register data is now easier to view and analyze. Practically, this means:
Checking business partners becomes easier. Before a deal or selecting a supplier, you can quickly see a company’s connections, previous owners, how many entities share the same address, and which countries are involved. This doesn’t replace in-depth due diligence, but helps form a quick first impression.
Others see your company the same way. Banks, payment providers, business partners, and compliance specialists now have this visual tool as well. It’s worth checking your own company’s e-äriregister profile: are board and member data up to date, or is old information still visible?
Shared addresses stand out more now. Many companies, especially those founded by e-residents, use the address of a contact person (kontaktisik) or service provider. It is common to have many entities at one address. However, this is now much more visible; how banks or partners will use this data isn’t specified by RIK.
Connections to other countries are seen at a glance. For structures with foreign shareholders or international subsidiaries, the cross-border nature of the business is now clearer.
No beneficial ownership data in beta yet. UBO information is currently not shown. RIK has not commented on when or how this will be added.
Who is Affected
- All Estonian companies: their relationships are shown in the new tool.
- OÜ owners and board members: their current and former business connections are more transparent.
- E-residents and non-resident founders: links to other countries and shared service addresses are more visible.
- Cross-border companies and groups: ownership structure changes are easier to track over the years.
- Companies that regularly check business partners: get a free, additional tool for initial analysis.
Key Dates and Timelines
- September 9–15, 2026 — RIK provided usage statistics and initial feedback for this period.
- September 21, 2026 — RIK announced the “Äriseosed beta” tool for all e-äriregister users.
RIK has not specified how long the beta will run, when dual versions will end, or when beneficial ownership, mergers, and division data will be added. No action or deadlines for companies has resulted from this change.
